For several months now, we've been hearing rumors about an ongoing feud Jim Bob Duggar and his son-in-law Ben Seewald.
The cause of the discord is said to be a number of differing views regarding religious doctrine that would no doubt seem minor to anyone not deeply involved with the particular sect of baptism that shapes every aspect of the Duggars' worldview.
But for Jim Bob and Ben, what's at stake is no less than their immortal souls, as well as the fates of Ben and Jessa's two children.
Some of the disagreements can be easily understood by outsiders:
Ben holds a number of "liberal" beliefs (meaning they fall to the left of Jim Bob's far-right ethos), and the Duggar patriarch believes that by supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and refusing to condemn all gays to hell, Seewald is defying not only the teachings of the Baptist church, but the very will of God.
But apparently, what concerns Jim Bob even more is some of Ben's more arcane beliefs, which apparently fly in the face of the central tenets of Jim Bob's beloved Quiverfull movement.
Insiders say the biggest point of contention is Seewald's Calvinist beliefs.
One of the more controversial teachings of Southern Baptist Calvinism is that of predestination, or the belief that one's salvation and path through life are pre-determined.
It's a belief that's shared by Jinger Duggar's husband, Jeremy Vuolo, and apparently, the doctrinal differences have created a deep rift within the Duggar clan.
“Every one of the guys have married into the family have their own way of thinking,” a source close to the family told Radar.
“Their beliefs aren’t always going to reflect every little ideal Jim Bob and Michelle embrace. There are a few differences in religious thought processes.”
The insider adds that Ben has been able to maintain close ties with most of his in-laws despite some major ideological differences--but it hasn't always been easy.
“Overall he’s close to the family,” the insider continued.
“Most everyone tries to agree to overlook things that aren’t in alignment with their thinking. If there’s something that comes out they tend to work it out quickly.”
That said, Ben isn't the only son-in-law with whom Jim Bob is currently locking horns.
It seems certain revelations about Joy-Anna Duggar's husband, Austin Forsyth, recently came to light and Jim Bob is not pleased with what he's learned:
“There has been a lot of talk about the character of her new husband Austin,” a source told Radar in September. “He was more of a rebel child.”
The situation has reportedly led to a generational feud that shows no signs of being resolved anytime soon.
“There’s a lot of outrage between increasingly divided factions,” says one insider.
Thus far, Jim Bob has been able to maintain the outward appearance of civility.
But those familiar with the situation say it's a veritable powder keg that's liable erupt any day now.

Audrey Roloff still has a lot to learn as a new mother.
Heck, every single woman on the planet who recently gave birth has a lot to learn as a new mother.
This whole parenting thing is not easy.
The Little People, Big World star is well aware of this fact, of course, having opened up last fall about the challenges she faced early on breastfeeding.
Roloff even admitted to showing signs of postpartum depression.
But the reality star and husband Jeremy have seemingly come a long way over the past couple months, sharing endless photos of daughter Ember Jean and gushing over her on Instagram.
In her latest blog, however, Audrey opens up yet again about a parenting obstacle.
And how it nearly ruined her very first Christmas with Ember.
"I started the morning off with a champion mom moment," Audrey writes sarcastically, elaborating as follows:
"I cut Ember’s nail to short and it bleed for a solid hour… I laid in bed with her all morning, refusing to get up and make us Christmas brunch, and wallowing in mom guilt.
"Ember cried for all of 10 seconds, but of course it left my eyes watery and my heart throbbing for the next few hours.
"Lord, why did you have to make babies nails grow so fast?!"
LOL. That's sort of funny.
And something to which millions of parents can relate.
But it was clearly no laughing matter for Roloff at the time.
"It wasn’t how I wanted Christmas morning to start off," she continues, explaining:
"I wanted it to be a perfect, cuddly, picturesque, breakfast-in-bed kinda morning. But it wasn’t.
"Does anyone else set too strict or too high of expectations for holidays, birthdays and anniversaries?! I can’t be the only one… but I am learning to let go of this, and not let one wrong turn have such a rock skipping effect.
"Come on Auj, buck up and move on.
"Maybe I’m just a wee more emotional because it was her first Christmas and maybe mom guilt really does make you a little crazy."
It's true, right?
But here's the thing: mom guilt will never really go away.
Right now, it comes out when you cut your loved one's nails too closely.
In a few years, it will come out when you forget to pack her lunch for first grade or something.
This is just part of being a parent and it's something all mothers and fathers must deal with. It's important to remember, however, that such small mistakes really have no impact on one's son or daughter.
Just provide a loving home and a healthy environment for your children to live in... and do your best on a daily basis with everything else.
That's all one can realistically ask of oneself.
Thankfully, it's pretty clear Audrey got over her mistake and the family had an epic time on December 25.
"Ember’s first Christmas brought out the child in us both again," she concluded on her blog, writing:
"I cannot wait to celebrate the holidays with Ember and our future children in the years to come, it makes everything so much more fun!"
Whoa! Future children?!?
Forget those Jacob Roloff baby rumors. Is Audrey pregnant again?
We can't imagine so. She just gave birth four months ago!
But will she do so again and is she excited about the possibility? Yes.
And that's great to hear. We're glad excessive nail cutting didn't crush Audrey's dream of adding to her family someday.
It’s crazy that we’re in 2018 and the broadcast networks are still throwing singing competitions our way.
What stings the most about singing competitions is the sheer fact that much of the winners are never heard of again, so it’s increasingly difficult to sit through them.
Fox’s latest effort comes in the form of The Four: Battle for Stardom and the network seems to think it’s going to be the show that will successfully change the genre up.
When the series kicked off Thursday night, the four finalists had already been chosen by the judging panel that consisted of Meghan Trainor, DJ Khaled, Charlie Walk and Sean “Diddy” Coombs.
The four best singers in all of the land were apparently Lex Lu, Blair Perkins, Elanese Lansen and Ash Minor. It definitely felt anti-climactic to go into the episode without witnessing the journey of these four.
But, whenever a challenger appears, they have the power to take one of the seats and send the person who is in the final four home, or something.
The first challenger was Tyler Griffin, and he appeared on the scene to film a Jason Derulo song. It was a decent enough rendition of the song, but Charlie Walk tried to be the Simon Cowell of the group and basically said it was crap.
The other three seemed mad because they actually liked the performance. The big flaw with the format is that ALL the judges need to give the go-ahead for the person to advance in the competition.
It’s going to be rare to find an act that all the judges agree on, and it takes away much of the suspense. That meant Tyler’s big challenge was all for nothing and he was sent home.
Zhavia, a 16-year-old girl, appeared as the next challenger and wasted no time in belting her heart out to Khalid’s “Location.”
Zhavia was voted through, and that meant she got to battle one of the Four for their place in the competition. Her battle was with Elanese, and it was clear Zhavia performed better.
The audience allowed Zhavia to stay and Elanese was sent packing, so there’s that. It didn’t help matters that Fergie was muttering as she walked around the stage.
The next challenger was a singer-songwriter named Anthony Hall, but the judges were not feeling it and cut him off pretty much off the bat. What happened to giving everyone a chance, you guys?
Illakriss was the next person, and he was voted through to battle it out with Lex Lu, but Lex ran circles around him in the performance, and Illakriss was sent home.
Saeed Renaud was the final competitor on the night, and we quickly learned he had already won a Grammy as a songwriter, so he had more experience than half of the judging panel.
But Renaud’s rendition of “Run To You” by Whitney Houston was hands down the best performance of the night. The shock was off the charts. It’s no Susan Boyle moment, but it’s up there.
Saeed got to battle it out with Blair and won the battle.
That concluded an awkward 120 minutes long episode. There are hints of a good show, but the judges need to dial back the enthusiasm and critique the singers.
What did you think of it?
