“Hi there everybody. Anthony Fantano here, the Internet’s busiest music nerd.”
With those eleven words, Anthony Fantano, the creator and face of YouTube’s TheNeedleDrop channel, has shaped popular music for the past decade.
Fantano, a bald music critic in his early thirties, has been reviewing music as The Needle Drop since 2009, when he launched the YouTube channel alongside an official Twitter account and an accompanying Facebook page.
Boasting over two million subscribers on his channel and a Twitter feed without almost a million followers, Fantano, aged thirty-four, is without a doubt the most popular music critic of the modern era.
A recent profile by The New York Times – yeah, that New York Times – outlined some of the appeal behind Fantano’s meteoric rise. It followed his early origins and his interactions with fans to this day. It also provided a generational context to his success.
Quite simply, if you’re a member of Generation Z, Anthony Fantano, or the Melon as he’s so lovingly called by many of his fans, is the only music critic whose opinion matters. That’s the thesis of the NYT article, it’s the gist of the various Spin Magazine articles written on him, and it’s only evident to anyone who follows the world of music criticism.
Basically, when it comes to album reviews, the only two that are observed are the Melon’s and Pitchfork’s. The latter, however, is a website, and while they upload day-of reviews that are quite anticipated, they’re textual posts, ranging around one thousand or more words, and quite impersonal (case in point, a different listener reviews each album).
Then there’s The Needle Drop. Fantano has managed to maintain a simple, easy-to-digest format for his whole career, featuring him speaking directly into a camera while featuring the current album behind him on the wall.
It’s a small operation, with Fantano simply using funds raised by his meme-heavy Patreon and his TurnTable link to pay for a video editor (Austin) other freelance production assistants. It’s sure as hell not as impressive as the massive teams over at NME or Complex Magazine, especially when Fantano is plugging the nifty metal-plated wallets of his sponsor, the good people over at the Ridge.
There’s more than just the video presentation, though. Fantano also consistently finishes up his reviews, whether the review lasts six minutes or twenty-seven, with a numerical score from zero to ten. He’s given out a few zeros and ones, mostly to albums like Chance the Rapper’s The Big Day and that horrid Green Day album from earlier this year.
However, it’s the high scores – and those albums that should’ve gotten higher scores – that really get his fans, his Melonheads as he calls them, in a buzz. In eleven years, Fantano has only given five ten/tens, mostly in the noise rock and hip hop genres.
There’s Death Grips’ The Money Store (2012), Swans’ To Be Kind (2014), Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), the self-titled KIDS SEE GHOSTS project (2018), and Daughters’ You Won’t Get What You Want (2018).
Yes, five albums in a decade. The man is nothing if not ruthless in his grading.
Some of his more infamous moments, such as the 6/10 score he gave to Kanye West’s magnum opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy in 2010 or the measly 4/10 he gave to Bon Iver’s 22, A Million in 2016, have earned him plenty of scorn. The Melon, to his credit, has defended himself by saying that he only speaks for himself, and is fine with other people disagreeing with all of his thoughts.
However, given that he’s approaching three million subscribers and is now being covered by national newspapers, is it worth looking at some of the less-savory elements to Fantano’s celebrity by this point?
Take the “Snow On Tha Bluff” controversy from June. Following a series of tweets from multi-genre artist Noname, rapper J. Cole made a song with the aforementioned title, essentially tone policing her and questioning her credibility to speak on the issue. Noname replied with a short, one-minute, Madlib-produced diss track, telling him that right now was not the time to be throwing shots at other black artists.
Enter: Anthony Fantano, controversy coveter. The Melon himself fired off a series of tweets roasting J. Cole – an artist who he’s consistently mocked for what he perceives as being overrated in the current hip hop era – and responding defensively when pressed on it.
Was he wrong to do so? Who knows. Did J. Cole probably need to focus on police brutality instead of questioning the woke credentials of a fellow artist? Most definitely. But this fits into a pattern of online messy situations on the part of the Melon, who once was the subject of a now-infamous Fader article.
There’s also the redveil saga, in which a recent Twitch livestream featured Fantano reviewing submitted tracks by fans and users alike. When 16-year old redveil’s new EP was mentioned, Fantano began mocking and deriding what he perceived as lousy, lazy production choices, to the chagrin of many of his fans who supported redveil and disliked seeing a young artist attacked.
When pressed, Fantano went on the defensive once more, claiming he’s only ever given his honest opinion, and that an artist’s age does not mean he’s free from criticism. Today redveil has received a massive boost in popularity off that one exchange, so really, no harm no foul.
But if Anthony Fantano is being covered by the New York Times and becoming the voice of gospel to music-lovers under twenty-five everywhere, it’s worth keeping an eye on what kind of voice that will be.
The man loves music, adores it even, that much is not up for debate. From there, whether his personal biases and character traits don’t also poison the discussion around certain artists or make his social media accounts more toxic than helpful is a whole other debate.
Personally, I’m going to keep watching. After all, the man got me into Death Grips and Fleet Foxes, and as long as he stops trying to sell me those damn Ridge wallets, I’ll even forgive the abysmal score he gave Mac Miller’s Swimming.
Billie Eilish Fights Body-Shamers After She Finally Stopped Dressing Like a Sitcom Actress Hiding a Pregnancy
I wasn’t quite sure what it was that Billie Eilish was hiding under those Doug ‘Think Big’ clothes she used to wear, but I would not have guessed it was an incredible set of breasts, but readers of Page Six will know that’s exactly what was going on.
Personally, I had a reaction to these pictures somewhere along the lines of the wolf in Tex Avery’s Red Hot Riding Hood.
Apparently, not everyone agreed with me because there was a whole lot of talk about Billie Eilish being body-shamed.
Eilish posted this video on her Instagram Story, seemingly as a response.

In case someone needed a reminder…. Instagram has warped a lot of y’all into thinking NORMAL bodies are abnormal. NO. Not every black girl has a shelf behind them. Stomach pudge is completely normal. Most boobs SAGGGG. And to all my mamas out there, it’s ok! You brought LIFE into this world sis
I didn’t realize Billie had been breastfeeding. But yes, we know breasts can look weird after breast-feeding.
I don’t think celebrities really come off looking great every time they have an “epic clap back” against their “haters” for whatever reason. After a while, you just start to look like Kanye West or Chrissy Teigen, a humorless, joyless jerk who either can’t take or can’t understand a joke.
There have been rumors that Sony wanted to do a Spider-Man vs The Amazing Spider-Man movie for years now, since before Marvel turned the character into Iron Lad and replaced Peter Parker’s uncle Ben with Tony Stark. The success of the animated Into the Spider-Verse has only ramped up rumors that there was going to be a live-action Spider-Verse event, as has news that Jamie Foxx would be back as Electro in the forthcoming Spider-Man 3 in the MCU.
I personally don’t understand the obsession with insisting certain comic book plot points be grafted onto Spider-Man in all his other media appearances. Killing Gwen Stacy was a mistake, the Clone Saga was a mistake and Spider-Verse was… not a mistake, but just a single crossover story that lasted a few months of Spider-Man’s nearly 60-year history. Spider-Man isn’t “about” inter-universe plots or armies of clones attacking him. Spider-Man is about a down-on-his-luck outsider who feels so guilty about not preventing the death of his uncle that he puts his responsibility to others above his own well-being and happiness.
There are reports that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be reprising their roles as Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man film in the MCU. I would not treat them as facts until they’re confirmed by one of the Hollywood trades.
The story being reported by Fandom Wire is that Doctor Strange will somehow be involved in bridging the Spider-Man universes and that “both Maguire and Garfield will appear in Tom Holland’s universe during the final act to help defeat all of the Spider-Men’s combined foes.”
Okay, so we know that Dr. Strange will be involved in the third Spider-Man film, and with Marvel seemingly focusing on the multiverse after blowing their cosmic load on Thanos in Endgame, it makes sense that Spider-Man would go in this direction.
Fandom Wire also reported that the third Spider-Man movie would feature a lot of villains in addition to Jamie Foxx’s Electro, such as the Green Goblin, Scorpion and Kraven the Hunter. Marvel had internally criticized Sony for stuffing too many villains into their Spider-Man films, so unless there’s a coherent reason here like The Sinister Six being a part of the plot it seems odd for them to be pulling such a big about-face. Of course, at the same time they were also talking about how they were going to replace Robert Downey, Jr as Iron Man when he left, so clearly some opinions have changed.
You don’t have to keep topping Endgame, guys. Spider-Man is a young guy trying to find his way in the world, he can just fight Doc Oc or have the Green Goblin pumpkin bomb the hell out of a mall he’s on a date with Gwen Stacy in (happy 25th anniversary Mallrats), not everything needs to be a world-shaking event.

It would be pretty embarrassing to be running for President and expose yourself as if having a clue about what’s actually going on in the world to millions of people on social media, don’t you think? I know that you’re wondering if I’m talking about Biden or Trump and really it could have been, but no, today we’re talking about Kanye West.
Kanye excitedly tweeted a video late Tuesday night saying to get the West Wing ready because he was polling so well in Kentucky.
GET THE WEST WING READY !!! … this is how I felt when I saw that Kentucky pole result pic.twitter.com/k9e87MGKZL
— ye (@kanyewest) October 14, 2020
There’s just one little problem, and you may have spotted it: that poll is obviously fake. The most recent legitimate polls of Kentucky show Donald Trump at 58% and Joe Biden at 40%, leaving just 2% undecided or voting for a third party, whereas the poll Kanye saw had Libertarian candidate Jo Jorgensen winning with 36%.
It doesn’t even look like a poll, because what you’re actually seeing is an example election night results page used for testing and with clearly fake results so people don’t claim that “the fix is in” before election night even though we pretty much know who is going to win Kentucky right now anyway.
What I’m saying is you’d have to be completely clueless about politics and a giant narcissist to think you were doing better in Kentucky than both major party candidates combined.
You might think that this would be embarrassing and Kanye would have been like “oh my bad, I thought these were real poll results, I just got a little overexcited and didn’t really think about it,” but only if you had never heard of Kanye West before. What Kanye actually did was continue his victory lap all night.
PEOLE TRIED TO TALK ME OUT OF RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT… NEVER LET WEAK CONTROLLING PEOPLE KILL YOUR SPIRIT
— ye (@kanyewest) October 14, 2020
And into the morning, Kanye retweeted this even after Twitter added a disclaimer explaining it wasn’t poll results.
YE 2020 AFTER ALL? Kanye West is leading Joe Biden and Donald Trump in Kentucky precinct voting polls pic.twitter.com/s29S1YTCrz
— SOHH (@sohh) October 13, 2020
There’s no such thing as a “precinct voting poll.” Election results are reported by precinct after each polling location closes and tallies their votes.
Kanye did eventually switch to tweeting about the conflict in Armenia, something important to his wife, who is Armenian. It’s a much better use of his platform.

Let's face it:
We already know the hero of The Bachelorette Season 16.
According to every rumor and spoiler out there, Dale Moss instantly wins over Clare Crawley this season... to the point that she leaves the show early to start a life with the ex-wide receiver.
But what about the opposite end of the suitor spectrum?
What about this season's most-hated contestant? Its villain, if you will?
Weeks ago, series expert Realtiy Steve gave this label to Yosef Aborady... and it wasn't diffiicult to see why after the Season 16 premiere.
Tyler Cottrill accused Yosef of being "reckless on Instagram" and flirting with women he somehow knew.
Aborady eventually sat down with Tyler and Clare and said his intentions on the program were pure -- and that was enough for Crawley to hear. For now.
Still, viewers will be keeping a sharp eye on Yosef, and this is what we know of him:
- He's 30 years old and he hails from Daphne, Alabama.
- He got married at 24 and is close to his four-year old daughter, Zara, and also to his ex-wife.
- He likes cooking, hanging out with friends and going to dance clubs. He also wrote in his ABC bio that he’s been told he talks too much, adding: "I am successful, intelligent, have my life together and I am extremely hard working."
Doesn't sound too bad so far, does he?
Yosef works as a Territorial Manager at Northfield Medical, which fits his Bachelorette description of Medical Device Salesman.
Standing at 6'1", he's also represented by Barefoot Model & Talent Agency and works on occasion as a model.
His shoe size is 13, his waist measures 35 inches and his suit size is a 42 regular.
Oh, yes, folks, we've done our research!
Here's a red flag, meanwhile:
Yosef made a personal website when he was cast on The Bachelorette, yosefaborady.com. The site is private now, yet it had been live and it made fans think that Yosef was maybe on The Bachelorette for the wrong reasons.
Could he be in this just for fortunate and/or fame?!?
“The early season villain is Yosef Aborady. From what I’m hearing, the guy had some choice words for Clare. Not sure what about, but it’s not going to look good,” Reality Steve earliier this month.
And Chris Harrison has also seemingly backed up this report.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight before the season, the host revealed that Yosef is trouble.
“Yosef is definitely someone who wears his heart on his sleeve. He is not afraid to express how he’s feeling—and it could be to anybody, including Clare,” Harrison said.
“Yosef is definitely someone, as far as drama goes, you want to keep an eye on.”
Tell us more, Chris!
"[He] doesn’t shy away from controversy this season," teased the producer, adding:
"If there is something on Yosef’s mind, he’s gonna say it.
"He has zero filter, he doesn’t mind who he says it in front of, and he doesn’t mind who he stirs the pot with—and I mean anybody. So, watch out for Yosef."
And here's another reason to be on the lookout:
Reality Steve has said Yosef gets sent home outside of a rose ceremony, implying he has an unceremonious exit and maybe even a big fight with the lead.
An extended Bachelorette season trailer shows a snippet of Yosef and Clare’s blowout.
In the clip, Yosef tells Clare, “I’m not done here,” which leads her to yell at him, “You are done. Get out of here!"
Concluded Reality Steve in his negative assessment/spoiler-filled column:
For a guy with a daughter, he sure sets a horrible example this season.
I’ll be curious to see exactly what they show of his conversation with Clare (some of which we’ve seen in the promos), but I’ve been told it wasn’t pretty, he called her names, and all around rude to her.
So she kicked him off the show.
Are the Duggars hillbillies?
The answer to that question may seem obvious at first, but it's more complicated than it appears.
Sure, they're Arkansas evangelicals who breed like rabbits, regardless of whether or not they're able to support more children.
But they're also at the center of a multi-million dollar media empire that's made them one of the most famous families in their home state.
With the possible exception of those Duck Dynasty guys, how many hillbilly families can make THAT claim?
So the Duggars have some big points in the non-hillbilly column.
But then there are stories like this one that sound like the setup for a Jeff Foxworthy joke:
For the second time, Kendra Caldwell and her mother, Christina Caldwell, are pregnant at the same time.
Yes, that's not a set of circumstances that you encounter very often, but Kendra -- who's married to Josh Duggar -- and her mom have been down this road before.
We learned over the summer that Kendra is pregnant with her third child.
But it just came out today that her mother is expecting her ninth kid.
We should probably clarify a few things in order to make this very weird situation seem slightly less weird.
1. Nine might sound like a lot of kids, but bear in mind that these people belong to the same community that produced Michelle Duggar, mother of 19.
2. Two simultaneous mother-daughter pregnancies might also sound strange, but it's important to note that Christina is only 18 years older than Kendra.
So yeah, still weird.
But maybe slightly less weird, given the full context?
To be honest, we're grasping at straws here, people!
Yes, it's more than a little strange that Joe and Kendra's kids will be older than some of their aunts and uncles, but those once they get started, those Arkansas evangelicals just don't stop breeding
So you can be sure the Duggars don't think there's anything weird about all of this.
And even if they did, they wouldn't say anything.
The two families are extremely close, and Jim Bob is rumored to have tremendous respect and admiration for Paul Caldwell, who is Kendra's father, Christina's husband, and the pastor of the Duggars' church.
It's been rumored that Joe and Kendra entered an arranged marriage after Jim Bob and Paul worked out the terms.
Of course, if that's true, then the arrangement appears to have worked out for all parties involved.
After all, Joe and Kendra are reported to be the the happiest of all the Duggar couples.
Things worked out so well that it's been rumored that Jim Bob tried to arrange a marriage between Kendra's sister, Lauren Caldwell, and one of his other sons.
Hey, we hope it works out for them -- of course, it would make the Caldwell family tree that much more confusing.

Miley Cyrus started rocking a mullet a few months into this whole quarantine when she famously cut her hair herself at home with then boyfriend Cody Simpson. She debuted the look with Cody and has since kept it going even after the break up.
While promoting the release of her upcoming album She Is, Miley Cyrus which is finally coming out this November, the singer posted some recent photos of her and that mullet and had Juliette Lewis sending her and the mullet some love. I trust Juliette’s opinion on the mullet because Miss Mallory Knox has rocked that hairstyle better than Billy Ray himself. Swipe through the gallery for more of Miley’s mullet!

Fashion house Missoni were part of the first ever Digital Green Carpet Fashion Awards show this year which was put together by something called Eco-Age. The GCFA awards were launched in Milian back in 2017 but due to the pandemic things went digital this year.
The awards are all about celebrating the best in sustainable fashion and this year Missoni had the gorgeous Iris Law wear a one of a kind dress that was made up entirely out of recycled plastic bottles and up-cycled Missoni threads. Missoni hopes to combat global waste issues like plastic pollution and waste caused by overconsumption (we’re looking at you FashionNova) by using existing stock and thread that is made up of recycled polyester.
Here is what the 19 year old model had to say about the opportunity:
“It felt so amazing to be wearing a one of a kind dress designed by mmissoni for the digital green carpet fashion awards 2020 ( @ecoage ) The dress is made of recycled plastic bottles and up cycled missoni threads
Fashion is one of the few all-spectrum industries (from agriculture to communications), and has its fair share of global issues: it is in fact one of the most polluting industries and biggest employer of slave labour worldwide. For me this is extremely emotional because fashion is such a huge part of my life and also such a beautiful creative outlet and means to express oneself.
A massive shift is needed in the industry to push towards being more environmental. Events like the green carpet awards help push this agenda ~
I feel optimistic that the fashion industry can change to be what they need to be for a sustainable future and I aim to do what I can to contribute to that ! I love any suggestions from my audience of what more I can do”
Great news for the world, even better news for Iris Law fans!

Emily Ratajkoswki is back in New York City where she’s getting ready to vote in the up coming election. But before heading to the polls the model went on a little nature hike to enjoy the fall foliage. She was probably the most covered up we’ve ever seen her in a bulky North Face puffer jacket and her safety helmet.
The 29 year old is also promoting a new partnership with a beauty brand called Loops which has her trying on different beauty masks for her Instagram. A little Hannibal Lecter vibes but we’re into it!

On Saturday, October 10, Steven Frend revealed that he and Olga Koshimbetova have split.
Olga has now been forced to comment ... but she is clearly not happy that this story has gone public.
Fans are obviously eager to hear Olga's side of things -- especially since, just weeks ago, she was happily allowing people to believe that they were still together.
“There are rumors on Instagram that you and Steven broke up," a fan wrote to her in Russian this week.
"Even so, I think it’s a private matter," the fan comment continued. "But it is so?”
Olga's response, also written in Russian, begins: “I have not written a post on this topic."
She then confirms: "But at the moment, as a couple, we are not together."
"Hopefully all for the best," Olga expresses, "but for now I don’t want to comment on this."
Olga and Steven are not exactly shy on social media -- for example, they both share many photos of their son.
But while baby Alex is extremely cute, the two have shared photos of each other only sparingly for quite a while now.
It has long been believed that Olga and Steven have filmed more for 90 Day Fiance than was known ... leading us all to wonder when that footage might air, if it ever does.
"People keep asking if Olga and I are [together] but the answer is, we went into this super blindly," Steven acknowledged on Saturday.
His Instagram Story continued: "There’s a lot the show left out that’ll have people confused."
"But," Steven emphasized, "we have learned a lot about each other over this whole journey."
"But we’re better at being coparents to our boy," Steven affirmed.
"We’re both civil and cause no drama," he added, "because our son’s mental health is too priority."
Steven's Story then concluded: “(P.S. Don’t assume you know the full story from this one little post)."
Several weeks ago, on September 22, Olga both suggested that she and Steven were still an item ... while also hinting at marital troubles borne of too much time together.
"? Why did you go alone ? And many many others questions I received when I told that I’m going to California," Olga wrote on Instagram at the time.
"For those who didn’t know," Olga reminded her fans, "I have a family here."
"My uncle came here 23 years ago, alone, without perfect English, without friends," Olga shared.
"But after all these years," she wrote, "they have a big family which included friends and other relatives."
"As you remembered, I planned to visit them in August," Olga added, "but then wildfires happened and I canceled my trip."
"But after a few weeks my uncle invited me again," Olga continued in September, "and i was so excited because I couldn’t spent more days sitting at home."
"After a car crash," she added, "we literally stuck at home and unfortunately there are no Uber with a car seat and no bus for us."
"And another reason: why it was a good idea to go alone without Steven," she addressed, answering: "because we finally started to miss each other."
After a pair of laughing emojis, Olga wrote: "Spending 24/7 with each other can be really tough."
"Did ever go somewhere without your partner?" she asked her followers. "Or do you always together?"
Either they broke up very recently, are on different pages, or Olga simply wanted privacy and didn't want to get into it. We get it -- relationships are deeply complicated.
