7 Celebrities from Houston

Most celebrities live in Los Angeles, Florida, and New York where filming happens frequently. They live glamorous lives with the nicest cars, clothes, and plenty of fans. But we often forget this wasn’t always the case.

In fact, many actors come from incredibly humble beginnings. They weren’t always popular in school, and they may have struggled for money. It’s always interesting to trace celebrities back to their original roots and see how it shaped them into the star they are now.

A surprising number of celebrities actually grew up in Houston, Texas. Housing prices are low, and with such humble living, the talent pool that spent their childhoods there is surprising. Out of the hundreds of actors, actresses, singers, and performers who have grown up in Houston, here are some of the most well-known.

1. Beyonce Knowles

Beyonce has always been a performer. As a child, she performed in various singing and dancing competitions throughout the greater Houston area, and it wasn’t long before she became famous as the lead singer for Destiny’s Child.

Her group was managed by her father, Mathew Knowles, and he helped them become one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. Shortly after, Beyonce began her solo career, and has since become one of the best-selling female artists of all time.

2. Jennifer Garner

Garner had her first moments on stage when she was three years old and taking ballet lessons in Houston. She also had a love for the theater through her high school years and ultimately chose a theater major in college.

Her career began when she moved to Los Angeles afterward. She played small, supporting roles in films, including a major supporting role in Pearl Harbor. In 2001, she gained her role as Sydney Bristow in Alias, which made her famous.

She’s won a Golden Globe, an SAG award, and received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations. She’s still an active actress in films today.

3. Hilary Duff

If you were born between the years 1990 and 2000, you were probably keenly aware of Hilary Duff’s career. She was born in Houston to encouraging parents who owned a chain of convenience stores. Her mother became the agent for both Hilary and her sister Hailey, both of whom had relatively successful acting careers.

Hilary was one of the first and most popular actresses on the Disney channel, primarily for her show Lizzie McGuire. She also starred in a number of Disney films, including Cadet Kelly, Raise Your Voice, Agent Cody Banks, Cheaper by the Dozen, and A Cinderella Story. When she wasn’t acting, she was releasing albums with Hollywood Records, her most popular of which being Metamorphosis.

4. Dennis Quaid

If you’ve seen the 2002 Disney film The Rookie, a film set in Thorndale, Texas, it might not surprise you that its star Dennis Quaid is also from the Lone Star State. He went back to his Texas roots for this role, and it felt very close to home for him.

Quaid studied under drama coach Cecil Pickett at the University of Houston, the father of actress Cindy Pickett. His career began in the 1980s, and despite a few rocky years in the 1990s, as he overcame a drug addiction and an eating disorder, he has been a prominent actor over the last two decades.

5. Kenny Rogers

Few people have accomplished as much as this Houston native. Kenny Rogers is a singer-songwriter, record producer, photographer, entrepreneur, actor, and author. His career began in Texas back in the 1950s, his genres ranging from rock’n’roll to psychedelic to country pop.

He has been recognized in the Country Music Hall of Fame for his highly successful country music career with more than 120 hit singles, 200 weeks at the top of the country and pop album charts, and 100 million record sales. All of this makes him one of the best-selling artists of all time.

6. Phylicia Rashad

This Tony Award-winning actress, stage director, and singer started in Houston. She comes from a very talented family, although she’s the only one who chose to pursue a career showcasing those talents.

Rashad is best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show, which earned her two Emmy Award nominations. She also became the first African American woman to win a Tony Award for “Best Actress in a Play” for her role in A Raisin in the Sun.

7. Jim Parsons

One of Prime Time’s favorite actors, Jim Parsons came from humble origins in Texas. He did theater in high school and went on to pursue theater at the University of Houston.

Parsons spent a lot of time in off-broadway productions as well as a few minor TV roles. He auditioned for and received several roles in television productions, but each of these failed, as they couldn’t find a network willing to produce it.

He earned the role as Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory in 2007, and the rest is history. He’s earned four Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for his role as Dr. Cooper.

Qualities the Most Awesome Celebrity Homes Have in Common

There is no doubt that celebrities have some of the nicest and most luxurious homes. With the kind of money that they earn, why wouldn’t they? This is especially true considering being a celebrity isn’t easy. You can hardly go out in public without your face being plastered all of the news.

This is likely the reason why so many celebrities spend the money making sure their home (or homes) are top of the line and feature some cool qualities that make all the normal people dream they could have a home that looks the same. As unique and off the wall as some celebrity homes are, there are certain qualities that the coolest ones have in common.

A Place to Soak the Day Away

With all the stress that come with being famous, it’s extremely important that the wealthy and elite get their R%R in. Though most people have the luxury of a tub to soak their stresses away in, the best celebrity homes have spas, hot tubs and infinity pools to take a load off in. Beyonce and Jay Z are just one of the couples to be able to soak away their worries in an infinity pool.

A View That’s to Die For

Not only can celebrities afford to have pools and spas in their own homes to help them get the needed rest and happy time they need, they also always go to extensive lengths to get the views that are to die for. Amazing views don’t come cheap and this the reason that celebrities are often the ones that get to enjoy them.

Channing Tatum is selling his home in Tribeca. The apartment features a stunning view of New York City. Don Imus has a penthouse apartment in Manhattan overlooking Central Park that’s for sale for almost 20 million. Charlton Heston’s house in Beverly Hills features a breathtaking view of surrounding land and the ocean. All in all, if you have the money, it’s natural to want to spend it on the view. Nature is so beneficial to the human psyche.

A Maxed Out Master Suite

In all the ways that a celebrity will go all out for their home, it’s understandable that they would go to the moon for their master suite. It is where they spend the best of their time, is it not? Patrick Stewart’s master bedroom had a direct connection to a patio overlooking the district of Brooklyn. Adrienne Maloof has a master bedroom that looks like it belongs in a palace. Celine Dion’s home has not just one, but two master suites.

If you have the means to go big-do it. That’s the lesson today. If you want a home that’s as breathtaking as the celebrities, start saving up, or do something really crazy to get yourself famous for no reason.

Latest Hollywood Couples Facing Marital Woes

In Hollywood, it’s normal to hear about celebrity couples split up whether married for a few months or many years. Their divorce is unpredictable and one that usually comes as a surprise to their fans.

Recently, several couples have been experiencing marital problems with some of them deciding to file for divorce.

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger

Singer Avril Lavigne announced last September that she and husband Chad decided to go their separate ways. No fights are involved, though, as their decision to divorce was amicable and both remain to be good friends. In fact according to Avril, she and Chad “are still and will forever be the best of friends” and will care for each other as always. The two got married in July 2013.

Beyonce and Jay-Z

If there’s one issue that singers Beyonce and Jay-Z are struggling to deal with, it has to be trust. And reports say this has led to a rocky marriage that might ultimately head towards splitsville. In fact, the couple are said to be thinking about divorce.

Beyonce and Jay-Z have been together since 1999 yet up to now, they continue to face trust and jealousy problems. According to a source close to the couple, Jay-Z is a “huge flirt” and has women surrounding him most of the time causing his wife to be jealous. Although observers point out that Beyonce is only human to feel jealous, worrying about her husband all the time can indeed badly affect their relationship.

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez

For their part, Halle Berry and partner are dealing with irreconcilable differences. Money is not an issue in their troubled two-year marriage as reports say, the couple signed a prenuptial agreement.

Some people including celebrities often opt to have a prenup before they tie the knot to protect their own assets and to keep them financially secure should things go wrong in the future, according to Los Angeles divorce lawyers. Legal experts agree that people who have acquired assets including properties while they’re single should opt for a prenup so their assets won’t be touched in case of divorce.

Personality difference has been cited as a major issue between the couple. A recent incident involving Olivier hitting a man with a car seat has been a cause of their arguments particularly as it led to Martinez being sued. Halle Berry reportedly filed for divorce first.

Halle and Olivier earlier issued a joint statement confirming their divorce and their wish for each other’s happiness. “We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son,” they said.

The couple has a two-year-old son Maceo while Halle also has a daughter from a previous relationship.

Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady

Gisele Brundchen and Tom Bray are another couple whose facing a rocky marriage. The highest-paid model and NFL pro recently revealed in the US Weekly magazine that they have been fighting intensely over Brady’s suspension. The NFL quarterback player was suspended last May and was not allowed to play in four games.

Despite their problem, though, the supermodel continues to support her hubby during his trial.

Mathew Knowles Teases New Destiny’s Child Project: Is This For Real?

We love reunions. Nostalgia is water to millennials. So that’s why we’re all really, really ready for another one, perhaps the biggest one of all.

With Beyonce on top of the world, maybe it doesn’t make sense to do a well-publicized throwback to her Destiny’s Child days. After all, she doesn’t need it. But in a lot of other, better ways, it’s what the world needs right now.

Despite the fact that Beyonce is no longer represented by her father Mathew Knowles, he has some projects in the works that at best, hint at a reunion and at worst, just gives the world more information about the hip-hop threesome we all loved.

The world got a hint of this hypothetical magnificence at the 2013 Super Bowl Half Time Show, when performer Beyonce brought to the stage her fellow (and former) Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Seriously, chills ran throughout the audience and across the world.

We need that again.

Hopefully, we’ll get it, or something similar. On Monday, Sept. 21st, Mathew Knowles revealed that he’s “working on a few Destiny’s Child projects right now” and that he’s “extremely hopeful that the ladies will come back with an album and a tour.” We are too!

Sadly, it seems like Mathew doesn’t have the power to reunite the girls, though that doesn’t mean they won’t do it themselves anytime soon. They recently sang together on Miz Williams’s gospel track ‘Say Yes,’ as well as performing the song at the Stellar Gospel Music Awards. Clearly, the girls aren’t opposed to working and performing together. That has to be a good sign.

However, Knowles’s project seems to be more along the lines of an autobiography and a corresponding biopic:

“My second book will be the autobiography of Destiny’s Child. I’m talking to the film and TV community right now, regarding a Destiny’s Child movie or TV series of some sort.”

I guess, for now, we’ll have to content ourselves with this development and cross our fingers for more.

Beyonce Reminds You She’s Still Alive

Beyonce Covers Flaunt Magazine

Taylor Swift has overtaken everyone. Does anyone remember or care about Beyonce anymore? She’s yesterday’s news already. She’s running third behind Swift and Kim Kardashian. Kylie and Kendall Jenner may even rank ahead of her in popularity. There’s no definitive way for me to measure beyond sticking my finger up my nose, closing my eyes and guessing. Seems like a good guess to me.

Beyonce’s already 34. Yikes, has she been around that long? Time for her to move into icon status. That means Christmas albums, less airplay and less caring from the general public. Sorry, Bey!

Here she covers Flaunt magazine. There’s no interview with Beyonce, only a summary of how busy she is. *twirls finger*

And so we’ll see a new venture this fall with Topshop boss, Sir Philip Green, still unnamed,  specializing in global athletic street-wear. We’ll see her headline—a few days from our printing this CALIFUK beast—the Budweiser Made in America Festival in Philly, which her husband Jay Z curated, and which will dump a bunch of dough into the local United Way. We’ll also see her headline the N.Y.C. Global Citizen Festival at Central Park—taking place during the UN General Assembly (chief topic to be addressed amongst the 193 representatives: an end to global extreme poverty). We’ve watched her visit Haiti this summer, which no doubt influenced these mission-driven performances.

Look at Bey’s breasts. No interview necessary.

Want To Be Cool? Drink Water

Water is literally essential to life. In fact, according to this infographic from iCliniq, the body is made up of 70 percent water. That’s a lot of water in the human body. That water does a lot for the body, including hydration and digestion.

Men need more water than women. Whenever you sweat you need to replenish the water in your system. Humans can only live for a couple days without water.

Celebrities Drink Water

You can be just like your favorite movie stars and drink water. Yes, there are stars out there that know the benefits of a healthy diet and quenching their thirst with water, instead of wine and beer.

Some of the more notable celebrities that drink substantial water include Beyonce, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Elle MacPherson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gabrielle Union, Paris Hilton, Cindy Crawford, Nicole Richie, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Julianne Moore, Pharrell Williams, and Angelina Jolie.

While it makes perfect sense that the models listed above would drink water, because they know the importance through their profession, it’s good to know that there are more in the celebrity world that understand how great water is for you.

Benefits of Drinking Water

One of the reasons why water is important to many models and movies stars, other than the fact you need it to live, is that it helps them have young and beautiful skin.

Drinking water actually works to make your skin soft and healthy from the inside out. It helps make skin cells more plump for a younger appearance. It hydrates from the inside out, so that your entire body benefits from each glass of water you drink.

On a hot day water is the only thing that will truly quench your thirst too. Drinking alcohol, even if that ice cold beer feels like it’s quenching you, only works to dehydrate you. One clue to whether you are dehydrated or not is your urine. If it’s clear, you have enough water in your system.

How To Add More Water To Your Diet

Drink a glass when you wake up. Even if you are having coffee, have a glass of water with it. If you go for a walk or a jog take a bottle of water with you and make sure you drink it. Have a glass or two with lunch, instead of soda or juice.
Basically, if you replace your other drinks of the day with water you’ll ensure you get the right amount. Think water is boring? Try buying flavored water or a flavoring for your water. Sometimes just a squirt of fresh lemon or lime is enough to give it a more crisp, enjoyable flavor.

Even if you don’t like water you need to drink it. You can get some water through the fruits and vegetables you eat each day, but you really need to drink some too!
