IIRC, not far from the Noel Coward Theatre, where I saw Gillian in "All about Eve" on March 28! :D

(I like how this quick iPhone snapshot accidentally turned out as A PRETTY COOL STREET SHOT WITH FLARE AND BOKEH AND EVERYTHING)

20190327&29_i1 My mostly-dark-and-grainy selfies with most of the cast of ”Shipwreck” at the Almeida Theatre, London, England

Raquel Cassidy, Fisayo Akinade, Elliot Cowan (I think), Khalid Abdalla, Tara Fitzgerald, and Adam James (I think).
The siggies are from Raquel and Khalid. 🙂

So, the main objective of this London trip was to see Gillian Anderson in "All about Eve", but I like to throw in another play or two while I’m there. So I searched the What’s On Stage site for my other 50000 fave actors, and found that Khalid Abdalla (I’ve only liked him since 2006! :O ) was doing this "Shipwreck" play.

As a bonus, it had Tara Fitzgerald, who was in "The Englishman who went up a hill…", which is on my fave list as it’s in the genre Cozy British Movies. :B And last year I got into "Game of thrones". 😀

And around the time I saw the play it turned out that this Elliot Cowan guy was in "Alexander"! (Three major sandal movies came out in 2004, AFAIK… but "Alexander" was the only one with a heart. 🙂 Hmm, maybe I’ll watch it this weekend.)

Almeida is probably the most intimate little theatre I’ve been to. (And it had an earthen floor! And my ticket only cost like 10 pounds!) The seat I booked hadn’t looked spectacularly close to the stage on the map, but it turned out to be quite close IRL for some reason. The stage was just a simple circular platform, and the first row consisted of regular chairs placed around it. I eyed them from my seat, half envious, half relieved. Wow, imagine sitting that close! Although I would have felt a bit exposed… to the… stars… :B I like to hide in second row, that’s ideal…

10 s later an usher asked me: "Are you here on your own? We have a single leftover seat to fill in the first row."
Rat: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! YES!"

"Shipwreck", which was about Trump and stuff, was really funny. 😀 Not that I know much about politics, or understood everything… (And I hadn’t yet read "Fire and fury", which may have helped a bit.) But still. xD I even bought the script afterwards.

I spent some time hanging out in the lobby (on various days), hunting for selfies and siggies. There was no special stage door in a back alley – the actors came and went through the lobby, had hug fests with their friends, and went to hang out with them in the theatre bar. So the aforementioned intimacy level (HEHE, I DON’T MEAN THAT IN A PERVY WAY) extended throughout the theatre.

I tried not to bother my selfie victims excessively… Would have taken Khalid out for coffee, you know, but he seemed to be in a bit of a rush – or perhaps just freaked out by me. %D They were all gracious. AND Raquel (with whom I wasn’t familiar at all) spent a ton of time talking to a group of her fangirls. Then she continued with me, asking me questions and giving me hugs and everything. ^_^ She goes on the list of Least Intimidating Celebrities, as I informed her. 🙂 Ah, I’ll try to check out some of her work. Apparently she was in "Downton Abbey"; I’ve been meaning to watch that! :q The fangirls seemed to be really into "The worst witch". I had never heard of it, but maybe it’s good. 🙂

PS. At one point, I was just standing around as people were exiting the theatre. And Khalid stopped to greet some friends just a couple of meters away! One of them said "Heh, I’ve never heard you do an American accent before." Pffft, hadn’t watched "The kite runner", I see. :B In other news, I love Khalid’s voice and real accent. Would listen to him read the phone book. Kthx.

PPS. Lastly, damn the lack of a selfie-flash on that iPhone 5. Two months later, the phone died and I replaced it with an iPhone 7. Which has a selfie-flash. GNNNNAAAAAAAAHHHH. OH WELL YOU CAN KIND OF MAKE OUT FACES IN THESE SHOTS.

British Woman Uses Voodoo to Create Sex Trafficking Ring

Voodoo is a real thing, folks.

Josephine Iyamu was convicted on sex trafficking charges after bringing women from Nigeria to Europe and forcing them to work as prostitutes to repay their debt. She charged the women roughly $44,000 in travel fees.

Iyamu talked her victims into repaying their debts instead of going to the police by forcing to to participate in Voodoo ceremonies.

Prosecutors say the ceremony gave Iyamu psychological control over the women. They were forced to drink blood with worms, eat chicken hearts and cut their skin during the ceremony. Sounds like an episode of Fear Factor gone wrong.

Look, if you are forced to take a blood oath at a voodoo ceremony, that’s bond. You simply can never go back on that. Doing so would be far worse than having sex with random men and women to repay a debt.

Iyamu will face 14 years in prison. If she’s able to finish a plate of pig testicles and drink a gallon of cows blood, she could get her sentence reduced by five years.

He seemed really nice, and signed for everyone in the massive line. :O

I had seen him before – at two or three Harry Potter premieres, plus I saw Equus in 2007, and got my programme signed after. 🙂

British Surgeon Arrested For Autographing Patients’ Livers

Scrubs is one of my favorite television shows of all time. “But Eric, what about The Wire or Breaking Bad!?” I hear you yelling into your computer screen. Nope, for me, a good sitcom I can watch anytime while I’m going about my day is the purest form of entertainment. Scrubs is one of the best sitcoms ever, because it manages to balance being uproariously funny with the dramatic moments that come with being in a hospital and being in your late 20’s and early 30’s.

One of my favorite Scrubs moments is at the end of the episode “My Day Off” when, after Turk removes J.D.’s appendix, J.D. notices that Turk stitched his initials into the incision. This was apparently also the favorite episode of British surgeon Dr. Simon Bramhall, because according to CNN, Bramhall used an argon laser to carve his initials onto the livers of at least two patients he operated on.

Also, the United Kingdom apparently doesn’t have a great sense of humor about these things, because Bramhall was arrested and pleaded guilty to the crime of assault by beating, which is a pretty light metaphor for “carving someone’s insides up with a fucking laser like this is Star Wars or some shit,” which I believe is an actual crime in the British legal code. If not, it should be, because, you know, it happened at least once.

Elizabeth Reid, a specialist prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service in London, said Bramhall’s actions were “deliberate and conscious.”

“Those assaults were wrong not just ethically, but also criminally,” she said in a statement. “It was an abuse of the trust placed in him by the patients.”

After he resigned in 2014, Bramhall told the BBC that he’d made a “mistake,” in reference to the incidents.

Okay, it’s pretty messed up to carve your initials into another living person’s body. It’s some serial killer shit if you think about it. When Turk did it to J.D., they had been best friends for their entire adult lives, and also they were fictional.
