7 Popular Hollywood Stars who are Certified Vegans

Celebrities are role models and it’s just fitting that they lead a healthy lifestyle to influence their millions of fans in a positive manner. Many Hollywood celebrities, in particular, have shun meat products and are now following plant-based and animal-free diets. They are called vegan celebs.

In the U.S., 2.5 percent of residents are vegans while five percent are vegetarians, according to a PETA report. Unlike what some people believe, those sticking to a plant-based diet can still consume vitamins and minerals while reducing their intake of calories and fats. They are also helping preserve the environment as they use fewer resources.

In support to this vegan lifestyle campaign, there are various groups now promoting vegan fashion. The Blue Rubies Faux Fur Collection, for instance, is using 100% vegan and cruelty-free merchandise and the company behind it emphasizes the essence of being fashion forward without having to harm animals.

Here are some of your favorite celebrities who now stick to a vegetarian diet.

Alec Baldwin

Actor Alec Baldwin was forced to follow a healthy lifestyle after being diagnosed as prediabetic in 2011. He became a vegan and in 2012 lost 30 pounds. This was during the time he bagged the SAG award for Best Actor in a TV Comedy.

Carrie Underwood

Did you know that Carried Underwood has been a vegetarian since age 13? Having grown up on a farm, she has witnessed animals being killed which discouraged her to consumer animal products.

In 2011, Underwood became a vegan but she clarified that her diet is not strictly without meat or dairy. She considers herself a practical vegan who still eats meat and dairy products on certain occasions such as for social or cultural reasons.

Casey Affleck

Casey Affleck is married to a fellow vegan and celebrity Summer Phoenix. This Goodwill Hunting star is an animal rights advocate.

Affleck related that her becoming a vegan was influenced by a childhood pet, his first dog. The was owned by an abusive couple who would not let him hold the pet.

Ellen de Generes

For popular comedian and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres, several books on animal rights and diets influenced her decision to become a vegan in 2008. She said that her love for animals was a major reason to follow a plant-based diet. Her wedding with Portia de Rossi also in 2008 featured a vegan menu.

As part of her commitment, DeGeneres started a blog called “Going Vegan with Ellen.” She and wife Portia are also owners of a vegan restaurant.

Jennifer Lopez

Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez is another happy vegan celebrity. She claims her plant-based diet has given her more energy and has made her feel so much better.

If there’s any food she misses, though, it’s butter. For her, butter makes everything tastes better.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman was already a vegetarian for a long time before becoming a vegan. It was in 2009 when she went vegan after the book “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer. Unknown to her many fans, she also blogged about her becoming a vegan on The Hufftington Post taking note of the compromised welfare of slaughterhouse workers and the harsh effects of mass productions of animals on the environment.

In 2011, however, Portman went vegetarian again but only for a year while pregnant saying that her body was craving for foods with dairy products such as eggs and cheese. By 2012, she reverted to being a vegan and in fact, an all-vegan menu was served during her wedding in the same year.

Usher

Usher is among the male celebrities who follow a healthy diet. It was in 2012 when the singer-songwriter-dancer went vegan. Reports have it that Usher’s father died of a heart attack in 2008 and since then, he has committed to leading a healthier lifestyle.

He has, in fact, encourage Justin Bieber to do the same but the Canadian singer has not stuck with the plan.

Natalie Portman Reboots Demi Moore’s Pregnant Vanity Fair Cover

When will the reboots stop?

In her recent Vanity Fair cover photo Natalie Portman showed off her baby bump.

Wow. Look. Celebrities. Just like us. Breeders. I bet they also do laundry and breathe and stuff.

This is a pretty solid take on Demi Moore’s iconic 1991 Vanity Fair cover shot of her in all her raw in-your-face pregnantness.

Demi Moore Vanity Fair cover 1991

Damn. Those are some pregnant women. They totally did the sex.

While the magazine’s fashion and style director, Jessica Diehl, said it was definitely an homage, she said the point was to show Natalie Portman at “her most radiant.”

Honestly, I would say Demi looks pretty radiant. Natalie looks like she’s doing the pregnant version of “Shit, did I leave the oven on?”

Pregnant Natalie Portman Arrives in L.A. After Paris Fashion Week

Natalie Portman (and her bump!) have made it back home.

After a whirlwind trip to Europe for Paris Fashion Week, the expectant mom, 35, was spotted arriving at LAX on Saturday. Portman wore a collared white button down midi dress, camel-colored coat and black flats as she left the airport.

Portman has spent the past few days showing off her pregnancy style at the ready-to-wear Paris Fashion Week shows. As one of the faces of Dior, the soon-to-be mom-of-two had a more understated look, covering her baby bump in a simple black peacoat.

The actress first debuted her growing baby bump at the Venice Film Festival premiere of her film Planetarium in September.

This will be her second child with her husband, French choreographer Benjamin Millepied. The couple, who were married in 2012 in Big Sur, California, are already parents to 5-year-old son Aleph.

Portman, who will also star as legendary former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the upcoming biopic Jackie, talked about parenthood in an article she wrote for The New York Times’ T Magazine.

“When I’m not working, I’m pretty much exclusively with my family, so my rituals have to do with school, meal preparation, playdates, bedtime,” she wrote.

“[Parenthood] made me much calmer under stress, because there’s that weird parent thing you develop, that when things get really bad, your voice gets calm and your blood pressure slows, and you can make everything okay again.”

Natalie Portman is pregnant!

The Oscar-winning actress and her husband, French choreographer Benjamin Millepied, are expecting their second child, PEOPLE confirms.

Portman also currently stars as legendary former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the upcoming biopic Jackie, which is currently earning rave reviews at the festival.

The Star Wars alum — who met Millepied, 39, on the set of her 2009 thriller hit Black Swan recently penned a piece for The New York Times’ T Magazine, in which she describes her private life centered around her roles as both a wife and mom.

The actress and Harvard grad touched on the lessons she has learned along the way since welcoming her first child — specifically that “time goes exponentially fast as a parent.”

“I hate saying it, cause ugh, we hated it so much when people said it to us,” she added. “They always said it, and now we say it, and it’s awful, and we’re old. But it’s also true.”

7 Celebrities Who Have Surprisingly High Education

Do you sometimes feel like celebrities were just handed their glamorous futures? Surprisingly, some stars actually worked real jobs and went through tough school grading assignments like the rest of us. It may make you feel better to stereotype all stars into a “blonde, bimbo” category but many of them have accomplished degrees in specialized fields. Included here are a few celebrities who have gone through higher education.

Natalie Portman

natalie_portman

From her days in Star Wars to her award-winning Black Swan performance, Natalie Portman knows exactly how to capture the attention of movie-goers. Her understanding of the human psyche could be attributed to the psychology degree she received from Harvard in 2003. Portman does not just limit her learning to studying the brain; fluent in French, Hebrew and Japanese, Portman keeps her mind sharp in a way that overshadows her appearance.

Hugh Jackman

Regaled as the “sexiest man alive” by People in 2008, Jackman has proved he is more than just a pretty face. With a Bachelor’s in communications from Sydney U of T, Jackman was a trained journalist before the cameras fell in love with him.

Jodie Foster

Jodie Foster

Foster may be a blue-eyed blonde, but nothing about her says “bimbo.” In 1985, Foster received her Bachelor’s in English Studies from Yale before she became an Oscar-winning actress. Due to many accomplishments on Foster’s part, she was awarded an honorary PhD from Yale 12 years later.

Lucy Liu

Widely renowned for her starring role on Charlie’s Angels, Liu has more than enough brains to function off-screen. Liu graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Asian Languages and Cultures years before she became a spokesperson for breast cancer awareness. Like Portman, Liu has become a lover of language and is fluent in five different languages, including Mandarin and Italian.

Rowan Atkinson

While on-screen, Atkinson may be best-known for his goofy performance on Mr. Bean; though he is anything but silly when it comes to academics. Atkinson graduated from Oxford University with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. While Mr. Bean may not be able to figure out how anything works, his alter-ego has the whole situation under control.

Leonard Nimoy

Best known for his classic portrayal of Spock on Star Trek, Nimoy received his Master of Arts in Bilingual Education long before his screen appearances. Since then, Nimoy has received two honorary doctorates due to his work in arts activism, Holocaust remembrance and environmental advocation.

Emma Watson

While starring in the internationally acclaimed Harry Potter films, Emma Watson did not forget her education. Watson worked to study at Brown and graduated with a Bachelor’s in English Literature. Watson is now working on the front lines of the gender equality and fair-pay movements sweeping celebrities everywhere.

First Look at Trailer for ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ [WATCH]

New from the world of Lionsgate and things Jane Austen would laugh at: the film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a book that explores the not-so-wide divide between the cutthroat world of Regency society and zombies, a metaphor for the old-fashioned ideals Elizabeth Bennet and her progressive sisters try to break down.

Just kidding: it’s just the text of Pride and Prejudice with zombie battles carefully inserted. But we’re not judgin’, because this trailer looks awesome.

The release of the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was polarizing, with many scoffing at such a ridiculous adaptation of the classic novel, beloved by so many. But the action seems like it relates perfectly to the silver screen, and we’re excited to see the prim world of Austen infiltrated by the undead.

The project gained attention when it was revealed that Natalie Portman would both produce the film and star as Elizabeth Bennet. However, she backed out of the lead role, instead handing the torch to Lily James, and staying on as producer.

The cast for such a strange movie is pretty stellar: joining Lily James as Elizabeth is Matt Smith (Mr. Collins), Suki Waterhouse (Kitty Bennet), and Bella Heathcote (Jane Bennet), among others. Despite the strange subject matter, I have to admit that it’s pretty satisfying to see Regency women wielding weapons.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is slated for a US release on February 5, 2016.

Natalie Portman: I’ve Asked Cate Blanchett for Parenting Advice

Natalie Portman is not afraid to ask for advice.

Between her 4-year-old son Aleph and a non-stop acting career, Portman looks to fellow actress and mom Cate Blanchett for some parental guidance.

“Very early on, I asked [Cate] about being a parent,” Portman says in the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “I said, ‘How do you do it? You’re a mom. You’re the best at what you do.’ She said, ‘You just do. Stressing about it doesn’t help.’ ”

Portman, 34, and her husband, choreographer Benjamin Millepied, 38, are both very dedicated to their careers, but also agree on the importance of family.

“Most men I know are dealing with the same issues,” the A Tale of Love and Darkness actress explains. “They say they feel like if they work too hard they won’t have enough time with their families. Maybe those questions need to be asked of men, too. Maybe the men need better questions.”

Portman, who has been residing in Paris for the past two years with her family, shared the differences between living in the City of Light and the United States.

“It’s magical. But the cultures are different in ways you don’t even realize,” Portman shares. “And there’s stuff you don’t know you’ll miss until you’re away — like indoor gyms where kids can just run around and jump. They don’t have those there.”

The Black Swan star adds, “[In Paris], if you’re running around on the playground chasing your kid and playing a game, people think you’re nuts.”

Natalie Portman Gives A Moving Commencement Speech At Her Alma Mater Of Harvard! Listen To The Actress’ Inspirational Words HERE!

We totally forgot that Natalie Portman graduated from Harvard in 2003! Talk about impressive!

On Wednesday, Natalie gave a very inspirational commencement speech at her alma mater, citing her experiences on the set of Black Swan as a motivational anecdote.

[ Related: It's Official! Natalie Will Play Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg In An Upcoming Movie! ]

Portman explained how she initially felt "woefully unprepared" for the film's role but persevered on regardless, saying:

"The point is, if I had known my own limitations, I never would have taken the risk. And the risk led to one of my greatest personal and professional achievements."

Woot! We're so glad the actress took on the role -- she wouldn't have won the Oscar, met her now husband, or even had her adorable son!!

Check out Nat's speech in full (below)!

Way to go, girl and congrats to the graduating class!!

Natalie Portman See Through Dress to the Rootie Tootie Booty on the Cannes Red Carpet

Oh, Natalie Portman, even though you’ve moved to France and married a ballet dancer and had a baby and sworn off nekkid movie roles and lost too much weight, how can I not stare at your bum on the carpet at Cannes when you’re wearing a see-through dress? That’s kind of rhetorical. I’ve been watching here for twenty minutes now. Natalie was once of great interest to me, her body most especially. And though she’s flown off our radar, impure feelings die slowly. Mine still burn. Seeing Natalie’s tush makes them burn a little more hot and all ember like.

Natalie, there is still time to salvage our one way feelings of lust and passion. First, a few sandwiches. I must insist. Second, we never ever speak of the ballet or men in tights or dancing on tiptoes ever again. You can keep the kid, but I’m going to need her or him with grandma during our Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Friday sloppy but tender making of the sexy sessions that will run into the morning. No child should be forced to see that, or worse, hear it. Natalie, this see-through number is a good start. It’s a signal. Now, take the next step. You can go home again. Enjoy.

It’s Official! Natalie Portman Will Play Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg In An Upcoming Movie!

Wait, Natalie Portman is set to play an 82-year-old woman?!

On Friday, it was reported that Natalie will portray Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the film, On The Basis of Sex.

[ Related: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Reveals She Fell Asleep At The State Of The Union Address! ]

The film will follow Ruth's illustrious career in securing equal rights for women.

Considering Portman is a dedicated feminist herself, we can understand why she was chosen for the role!!

One thing we're curious about, however, is how the actress will pull off Ginsburg's mature look!

Well, given Nat's superb acting skills, we bet she'll be able to rock the role despite the age difference!! She did win an Oscar, after all.

So, do YOU think Natalie is a good fit for the role?
